Hey guys!
Recently(well, actually over a month ago, perfect timing, I know) I’ve got my hands on new Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks. I’ve seen some reviews and know some people who call these lipsticks their holy grails. Are they really that good? Let’s find out!
Claims: “Long-lasting matte liquid lipstick. Ink your lips in up to 16-hour saturated liquid matte. Superstay Matte Ink™ features a unique arrow applicator for precise application and is available in 10 super saturated shades” (according to Maybelline website)
Package: The packaging is pretty simple: a matte plastic tube representing the shade color and a white lid with a product name sticker on the side and the shade number&name on top. The applicator is a doe-foot arrow shaped with a hole in the middle which helps to easily apply and evenly spread the product.
Value: Superstay Matte Ink contains 0.17fl. oz/ 5 ml of product and retails for $9.49 which means that you pay approximately $1.9 per each ml.
Formula: First thing that I’ve noticed is the smell. It doesn’t bother me but may be pretty strong for some people. The smell is sweet and reminds me of cakes or candies. I caught myself sitting and just smelling this lipstick for several minutes (I sound crazy haha) The formula is a bit sticky but not as much that I can’t handle it (unlike the stickiness of MUR lipstick I reviewed here). Not patchy, streaky or drying and really comfortable to wear, though, it’s not transfer-proof. However, they are really long-wearing and difficult to come off (it’s better to wash them off with an oil-based remover).
Vegan/Cruelty-free: Maybelline inherits L’Oreal animal testing policy and is sold in China (where animal testing is mandatory). “L’Oréal no longer tests any of its products or any of its ingredients on animals, anywhere in the world nor does L’Oréal delegate this task to others. An exception could only be made if regulatory authorities demanded it for safety or regulatory purposes.” (taken from Maybelline website). Therefore, Maybelline makeup is not cruelty-free.
Wearability: In my opinion, there are no crazy shades in this range and they are all pretty wearable (except for the shade 35 Creator which is straight up purple). The range features both nude shades and brighter and darker shades for special occasions (or for everyday wear, if you are like me).
Longevity: These lipsticks are pretty long-lasting. They survived through my meals (I didn’t eat greasy food so I can’t really tell will Matte Ink survive your favorite pizza or not). I usually take off eye and lip makeup with micellar water and, let me tell you, these lipsticks did not come off. You have to take them with cleansing oil or oil-based makeup removers.
Shades: As mentioned before, Superstay Matte Ink range features 10 shades:
- 05 Loyalist
- 10 Dreamer
- 15 Lover (swatched below)
- 20 Pioneer (swatched below)
- 25 Heroine
- 30 Romantic
- 35 Creator
- 40 Believer
- 45 Escapist
- 50 Voyager (swatched below)
Swatches:
The shade range in my local drugstore was limited to 5 shades and I got 3 of them (other two are 05 Loyalist and 10 Dreamer). As I mentioned before, these lippies are difficult to wash-off and I didn’t have my cleansing oil so making these swatches was a nightmare for me, literally. Also, sorry in advance for crappy swatch photos, I had difficulties in making close-ups for some reason.
15 Lover
This is a cool-toned mauve (don’t quote me on that, I’m terrible at describing shades) lipstick. Never owned a shade like this so I was really curious to try it out. At first, I had mixed feelings about it, mostly because I was a bit confused and couldn’t decide if I like it on me or not. Once it became a little bit darker throughout the day for some reason (do lipsticks oxidize?) but nothing like that happened on other days. Overall, I like this shade.
20 Pioneer
Old classic red, how could I ignore this shade. Can’t say much about it, love this one.
50 Voyager
I decided to take the darker shade because colors like this can be super patchy sometimes. But not this one, it’s opaque in one coat. Also, I like the color itself, it immediately reminded me of autumn and will be perfect during this season.
Overall verdict: All in all, this may not be my №1 favorite liquid lipstick formula but I’m definitely glad that I tried out these Matte Ink lippies. I noticed myself wearing shade 15 Lover a lot and shade 50 Voyager is gonna be my choice for autumn.
So, here’s my review of Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink, hope you enjoyed it. Would love to hear your thoughts so feel free to leave them in the comment section below!
Till next time!
Bye∼

OK i’m in loveeee with the number 15 color!! this is usually the type of color I wear on a daily basis, and the one I have been using (by Revlon) changes for some odd reason and became lighter and almost see through – this is perfect! I love the red too, for evening. This is soooo on my shopping list next time i’m in the drugstore. Matte lip liquids a must for me. thanks for this review.

Your lips look perfect!!!
I would sit and smell the lipsticks too hahaha!
All of the colours look pretty good! They’re a bit too bold for me though, maybe one day when I get the confidence to wear them.
It sucks that they are not cruelty free!

Omg, thank you! Actually I’m also not confident enough for bright lipsticks other than red yet but I hope to get there one day haha
Ikr? Wish all brands went cruelty free😫 That would be amazing!

I love the colours and they look amazing on you lips. Unfortunately I can’t cope with highly smelly things like this so think I’ll have to give them a miss. Thanks for your review as I know not to try now!!

I always struggle with matte lipsticks because they are a bit drying… but the colors are so vivid and gorgeous so in the end, I try them anyway!
Lover looks especially great on you! Muted natural colors that still pack a punch are hard to find, and I love how it looks in your pictures. ❤

These lippies are not drying but on the other hand they do not dry down completely! I was never a fan of shades like Lover but this one… I’m in love! Thank you, Evy💕
